Posted Garage Door Repair Prices for Portland and Clark County
Every garage door repair we do in Portland and Clark County has a posted starting price that includes the part and the labor. You hear your number before we drive out, and it changes only if you approve a change at the door.
Updated
Each board price assumes a standard residential door: one standard torsion spring, a pair of lift cables, or a bottom seal on a single-car door. Heavier, wider or older doors can need bigger parts, and each line's note says which lines move.
There is no separate trip charge when we do the repair. The diagnostic visit at the bottom of the board applies only when we come out, find the problem, and you decide not to go ahead. Same-day visits during business hours are billed from the same board.

What moves a job above its starting price
Door weight and width, spring grade, worn parts found on the job, hard-to-match older parts and tight access push a job above its starting price, and each is priced with you before the work starts.
- Door weight and width. A 16-foot insulated steel door or a solid wood carriage door takes heavier springs and thicker cables than a single-car steel door.
- Spring grade. High-cycle and galvanized springs cost more up front and hold up longer in a damp garage.
- Worn parts found on the job. Frayed cables, cracked drums, flat-spotted rollers or a rusted center bearing get shown to you and priced before anything is replaced.
- Matching older parts. Sections for discontinued doors and logic boards for older openers are priced once we confirm the exact part that fits.
- Hard access. A tuck-under garage with a low ceiling, or an opener mounted above a loft, can add labor, and we say so before you book.
When we will tell you to replace instead of repair
We tell you to replace only when the door or the opener itself is failing, not when a wear part has given out. Most doors are worth repairing.
When replacement is on the table, we price both paths side by side at the door and leave the choice with you. If a repair is right for the door, a repair is what we recommend.
| What we find | What we usually recommend |
|---|---|
| A broken spring, frayed cable, worn rollers or a stripped opener gear on a sound door | Repair. These are wear parts, and swapping them costs a fraction of a new door. |
| One damaged section on a door model that is still made | Repair. We replace the damaged section. |
| Steel sections rusted through along the bottom edge | Replacement starts to make sense. |
| Rot you can push a screwdriver into on a wood door | Replacement starts to make sense. |
| Two or more damaged sections on a model that is no longer made | Replacement starts to make sense. |
| An opener old enough to predate photo eyes | Replace the opener. |
Pricing questions
Does the posted price include the part, or is that extra?
The part is included. Every number on the board covers the replacement part plus the labor to install it, test it and adjust the door afterward. A part only adds to the bill when the door needs something beyond the standard repair, such as a heavier spring or new cable drums, and we price that with you before any work starts.
Do I pay anything if you come out and I decide not to do the repair?
Only the diagnostic visit listed at the bottom of the board. It covers the drive, the diagnosis and a written quote you can keep and compare. If you go ahead with any repair on that same visit, the diagnostic charge comes off the bill entirely, so you only ever pay it when no repair is done.
Why post prices when most garage door companies quote on site?
Because you should know the number before agreeing to a visit. A posted starting price lets you compare companies on equal terms, and it keeps the conversation in your driveway about the door rather than about haggling. If something on site changes the job, you see the worn part and approve the new price first.
Is a same-day repair priced higher than a scheduled one?
No. A same-day visit during business hours is billed from the same board as a visit booked a week ahead. Urgent calls, like a door stuck open overnight or a car trapped behind a broken spring, get moved up the route when we can manage it, and there is no surcharge for that.
Can you give me an exact price from a photo?
Often, yes. One photo of the whole door from the driveway and another taken up close of the spring or the opener label shows us the door size, the spring type and the opener model. With that we can usually quote the exact repair, and we point out anything a photo cannot show, like cable wear hidden on the drum.
Why might my spring repair cost more than a neighbor paid for theirs?
Springs are sized to the weight and height of each door, so two houses on one street can need very different steel. A heavy wood door, an insulated double door, or a door built for two springs instead of one all take more or larger springs. The board shows the starting point, and the size of your door sets the rest.
Will the price change after you start the work?
Not without your approval. If we open things up and find a problem the quote did not cover, like a cracked cable drum hidden behind the spring, we stop, show you the part and give you the added price. You decide whether to add it, and the original repair price stays exactly where it was either way.
Ready to get the door moving again?
Call with the symptom, or text a photo of the door and the opener, and we will name the part and the posted price before anyone drives out.
