Raynor in Portland-area garages
Raynor is a garage door and opener maker founded in Quincy, Illinois, in October 1944, and Portland-area homeowners meet it as an insulated steel door, a carriage-style door or a Prodigy, Sentinel or Trailblazer opener.
Woodworker Ray Neisewander Sr. and plant superintendent William Norberg started it, and it moved to Dixon, Illinois, in 1946 and keeps its headquarters there under a third-generation Ray Neisewander.
Its residential history runs from the Raynor Jet flush door of 1957 through the Decade door of 1980 to the Aspen Series in 2016. Raynor also builds commercial sectional, rolling and fire-rated doors, so the name shows up on shops and parking garages as well as houses.
Raynor sells, installs and services through its own dealer network, with a Find a Dealer tool for new doors. Wherever your door was bought, parts and service are available through us, and keeping a Raynor door running is the work we take on.
How to tell it is a Raynor
Raynor doors carry construction details that confirm the brand even after the original paperwork has gone missing.
- A 2-inch steel sandwich door with foam filling the whole cavity and a weather-sealed joint between sections, which on Aspen doors Raynor calls WeatherLock.
- Series names on paperwork such as Aspen AP200 or AP138, Encore EN200, or the TradeMark and BuildMark pan doors of the Advantage Series.
- Wood-look and carriage-style doors from the Distinctions Series, such as Eden Coast and RockCreeke, which add overlays to an insulated steel base.
- A Raynor opener on the ceiling or the wall beside the door, labeled Prodigy, Sentinel or Trailblazer.
Raynor models we see on service calls
These Raynor lines appear on the company's current residential pages; older Raynor doors went by other names, so the label on yours settles it.
| Model | Years sold | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aspen AP200 and AP138 | Aspen Series since 2016 | Steel and polyurethane sandwich doors, 2 inches and 1-3/8 inches thick, rated R 18.0 and R 13.0. Spring sizing has to account for the second steel skin and the foam. |
| Aspen AP200LV LuxeVue and AP200N Contempra | Current | Aspen variants with an oversized top window section or a narrow-frame modern look. Glass and window sections are Raynor parts. |
| Encore EN200 | Current | A 2-inch, two-sided steel door with a polystyrene core sandwiched between the skins. |
| Advantage Series TradeMark and BuildMark | Current | Pan doors in 24-gauge and 25-gauge galvanized steel with optional insulation. Lighter than the sandwich doors and quicker to dent. |
| Distinctions Series doors | Current | Custom lines from aluminum full-view StyleView doors to composite-overlay carriage doors. Overlay and glass repairs call for Raynor parts. |
| Prodigy III wall-mount opener | Current | A jackshaft unit with battery backup, built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an automatic door lock. It mounts beside the door and drives the torsion shaft, so it needs a torsion spring door. |
| Sentinel and Trailblazer openers | Current | DC belt and chain drives on ceiling rails. Sentinel models add battery backup and camera features, and the whole range connects through myQ. |
Known Raynor issues and the fix
Raynor work covers broken springs on heavy doors, damaged sections, derailed doors, remote and myQ trouble, and commercial door service.
-
A broken torsion spring on a heavy insulated door
We measure the old spring and the door, wind a correctly sized replacement, and check the cables, drums and bearings. Springs are matched to the weight of the door, not its brand, so this is usually a one-visit job. Garage Door Spring Replacement, from $249
-
A dented or cracked section
We record the series, width, design and color, then source the matching section. Door-specific parts have to be ordered, so we make the door safe to use while the part is on its way. Garage Door Panel and Section Replacement, from $449
-
The door runs crooked or jumps its track
A frayed cable, a loose track bracket or a seized roller can pull a door out of line. We guide the rollers back into the track, replace damaged rollers and cables, and square the tracks. Off-Track Garage Door Repair, from $179
-
Raynor remotes or the myQ app stopped responding
We check remote batteries and the learn settings, re-pair remotes and keypads, and reconnect the opener to your home network for app control. Garage Door Remotes, Keypads and Smart Controls, from $89
-
A Raynor commercial door at an apartment building or shop
Sectional and rolling commercial doors need the same spring, cable and operator work at a larger scale, and we schedule it around tenants and business hours. Commercial and Multifamily Garage Door Repair, from $189
Getting Raynor parts wherever your door was bought
Most Raynor repairs use standard hardware from our truck, and only door-specific parts need ordering. Springs, cables, rollers, hinges and drums are matched by measuring what is already on the door.
Sections, overlays, window frames and decorative glass are another matter, because they must match the series, design and color exactly. We collect those details on the first visit, source the parts, and tell you the expected wait before you commit.
If a section cannot be matched, because the design is discontinued or the color has faded too far, we quote a replacement door alongside.
Repair or replace a Raynor door?
Repair a Raynor door while its sections are sound, since a spring, cable or roller failure says nothing about the door itself.
Replacement makes sense when several sections are damaged, when the design is out of production, or when an old pan door has rusted through along the bottom. The Portland airport logs about 157 days of measurable rain a year, and water sitting against the bottom seal is where that rust begins.
Raynor openers, remotes and the myQ app
Current Raynor openers connect through the myQ app, the same smart platform LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers use. Remotes and keypads are matched to the radio in the opener, which we read from its label.
The Prodigy III mounts to the side wall next to the opening and drives the spring shaft from the end, freeing the ceiling for storage or a roof-rack vehicle.
Raynor questions
Is there a Raynor garage door dealer in Portland?
Raynor sells new doors through dealers, and its Find a Dealer tool lists current sellers. For repairs, where your door was bought makes no difference: we service Raynor doors and openers across the metro, handle springs, cables, rollers and openers on the spot, and order Raynor-specific sections when a door needs one.
How do I find the model of my Raynor garage door?
Start with paperwork from the builder or seller, or a Raynor warranty registration, which may name the series. Then note the thickness, whether foam sits between two steel skins, the panel design and the color. Those details narrow a Raynor door to its series even when the paperwork is gone.
Do Raynor insulated doors need heavier springs?
Usually, yes: an Aspen or Encore door with two steel skins and a foam core weighs more than a single-skin pan door of the same size. Its springs carry that extra load. We size replacements by measuring the old spring and the door rather than going by brand, which keeps the door balanced and spares the opener.
Can a Raynor opener be installed on a door from another brand?
Yes, provided the door hangs in balance and falls within the opener rating. A Raynor Sentinel or Trailblazer on a ceiling rail suits most residential sectional doors, while the wall-mounted Prodigy III needs a torsion spring shaft and room beside the door. We test door balance first, since no opener should lift a door with a weak spring.
Do you service Raynor commercial doors at apartments and businesses?
Yes, we service them for property managers and building owners. Raynor builds commercial sectional, rolling and fire-rated doors, and the multifamily buildings, parking garages and shops that use them need springs, cables and operators serviced like any other door, at a larger scale.
Is a Raynor door worth repairing after a car backs into it?
Often, if only one or two sections took the hit. We check tracks, rollers and hinges for bends, make the door safe to run in the meantime, and replace damaged sections once matching Raynor parts arrive. If the bottom sections and both tracks are bent, a full replacement tends to win; both prices go on the quote.
